Live report: England vs Sri Lanka, Bengaluru

England vs Sri Lanka, Bengaluru, October 26, 2023

England: 145/6 in 30 overs (Buttler 52, Malan 35; Kumara 2/23)

Sri Lanka:

Toss: England won the toss and elected to bat

England innings:

England got off to a solid start, with openers Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow putting on a 65-run partnership for the first wicket. Buttler looked in ominous form, hitting four fours and two sixes in his 52 before he was dismissed by Dushmantha Chameera.

Bairstow followed soon after, falling to Wanindu Hasaranga for 35. Dawid Malan and Liam Livingstone then steadied the ship with a 40-run partnership for the third wicket. Malan looked particularly good, playing some elegant strokes on his way to 35.

However, England lost wickets at regular intervals after that, with Livingstone (15), Moeen Ali (12), and Sam Curran (10) all falling cheaply. England were now struggling at 145/6 in the 30th over.

Sri Lanka innings:

Sri Lanka bowlers had a good day out, with all of their bowlers picking up wickets. Dushmantha Chameera, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Chamika Karunaratne were the pick of the bowlers, with two wickets each.

England batsmen, on the other hand, had a disappointing day out. Only Jos Buttler and Dawid Malan played with any fluency. The other batsmen were all dismissed cheaply, as England were bowled out for 145 runs in 38.2 overs.

Sri Lanka are now in a strong position to win this match. They just need to bat sensibly and chase down this target without any hiccups.
